Locals head south for Cup

Punters and spectators from across the shire made the trek to Seymour on Sunday 12 October for the annual Seymour Cup race meet.

Among the crowd were Federal Member for Nicholls Sam Birrell with his wife Lisa and State Member for Euroa Annabelle Cleeland with her husband David and children in tow.

Mr Birrell said he enjoyed country races over city meets due to them having 'real intimacy'.

"You get close up to the horses and see a lot more people that you know," he said.

"And it's a real horse racing Mecca here - you've got Nagambie as well as the Seymour area where a lot of champions were foaled and trained."

Mansfield's Adrianne Moore won the Best Dressed in the Fashions-on-the-Field parade, saying she had won 'a few times' and that she liked entering as many events as she could.

She won at the Benalla Cup last year which gave her a sense of déjà vu when interviewed.

"I think you were the judge," she told this correspondent.

Which was true.

"And if you don't win, it's still a great excuse to get dressed up and go out.

"There're not a lot of opportunities to go all out, are there?"
