Myrtleford Toy Library expands its facilities

The Myrtleford community joined together last Saturday for the grand opening of the new Myrtleford Toy Library shed.

The new facility marks a major milestone for the not-for-profit and volunteer-run toy library, which provides fun and educational toys to more than 30 families from Myrtleford and surrounds.

The project was kickstarted by generous grants from GROW Myrtleford+ (a sub-fund of the Into Our Hands Foundation) and Community Bank Bright, and was driven by community generosity and fundraising efforts over the past year, including significant contributions from Alpine Shire, private donors and local organisations such as the Myrtleford Combined Services Club.

Toy library committee member Anna Buchanan Old said the new purpose-built shed provides a clean, weather-proof home for hundreds of toys and learning resources.

“With the bigger space we can now expand our toy range,” she said.

Local families, volunteers and officials from many of the supporting organisations came to celebrate the opening with tours of the new space, free face painting by Casey Mae Face Painting and refreshments by Coffee Chakra.

Raffle tickets for a beautiful quilt made by members of the Rosewhite Country Women's Association were also sold to raise money for additional toys.

"This is a just another example of how our community comes together when the need is there," Myrtleford Lions secretary, Chris Buono said.

"When individuals, private companies and community support groups like the Lions and Combined Services Committee all join hands, the result is extraordinary."

The Myrtleford Toy Library continues to welcome new members and donations, helping ensure every child in the Alpine region has access to quality, sustainable toys and play experiences that foster imagination, learning and friendship.

Open on the first and third Tuesdays and Saturdays of each month, the toy library is located at the Myrtleford Senior Citizen's Centre.
