Pupils put on their dancing shoes at Ablett Pavilion

Myrtleford P-12 College's Year 11 students celebrated the end of term two with their formal ball last Friday evening, which was a sparkling success, held at the Ablett Pavilion.

Some 13 pairs of students stepped onto the dance floor to showcase the dances mastered, following weekly lessons over the course of last term taught by guest dance instructor Stefan Saric who has over 30 years’ experience, and year levels 10 to 12 coordinator Keira Schaefer.

More than 150 family members, friends, fellow students and teachers made the evening a special occasion for this year's attendees, with the evening's dinner catered by Oxley's King River Café.

Ms Schaefer said preparation up to the formal went very well.

"It’s always a long haul and difficult job to coordinate, but the participants had a great night and it makes it all worthwhile," she said.

"Not all Year 11 students attended, as it is an optional and costly experience.

"It runs in the same way as a typical debutante ball, minus the white dresses and the curtsey or bow to a 'special guest'.

"They walk out in couples, have introductory speeches read about them and then perform three choreographed dances."

This year the dances were the 'Pride of Erin', 'Evening Three Step' and 'Maxina', with their partner and an additional 'special person’s' dance, which was a modified Pride of Erin with an important person of the students' choosing.
