Raising the roof for the CWA

THE Mansfield CWA Hall on High Street was a hive of activity during pre-polling for the federal election, providing the perfect opportunity for members to run a fundraising stall for a much-needed new roof as locals took advantage of early voting.

"We raised funds for kids with cancer over Easter and then launched our Raise the Roof fundraiser on April 22," said Mansfield CWA branch president Jo O'Brien.

"Fundraising includes the pre-polling stall, a raffle, and we are looking at a girls' night out in June.

"It is a dedicated campaign which will run through to September, when we hope work will commence."

The president stressed while this was an important focus the overarching task of the branch which celebrated its 95th anniversary this year was to help the community especially vulnerable women, children and families.

Replacing the roof will ensure that the branch can continue this vital outreach work.

The op shop is an important source of fundraising.

"We are very grateful for the generosity of the Australian Electoral Commission to allow us to run a stall outside while our hall is in use," Ms O'Brien said.

The Raise the Roof raffle will be drawn on July 20.

First and second prizes will be $1000 and $500 vouchers respectively to spend at a local business of your choice.

"It was really important that the CWA supported local businesses," said Ms O'Brien.
