Second street showcase a sweet success

Thousands of people flocked to Bright's town centre last Thursday evening to enjoy the gastronomic delights of the region at the second annual Bright Twilight Tastings.

Live music could be heard streets away, delicious scents of varied food stalls wafted through the air, the face-painting tent was doing a roaring trade, the Bright Rotary Club manned the barbeque and even thousands of flying ants could not dampen the sense of community celebration in Ireland Street.

President of Bright Twilight Tastings committee, Amanda Hore, said planning had gone very well for their second time around.

"It's been the best night," she said.

"It's looking amazing...we have 10 each of the food and wine stalls, which is more than last year and two musicians instead of one: Damn'd Sam and the Preachers, as well as Vikki Joy Music.

"We wanted to see the community connect, have a great time and get out and about to enjoy everything our beautiful area has to offer."

Dave Fry from Backwoods Distilling Co. in Yackandandah said they're usually in town for the monthly markets and didn't miss the chance to be part of the Bright Twilight Tastings.

"Our company ethos is championing Australian producers," he said.

"We're here because we love Bright and we try to support anything local."

Mariah Love brought her son Alfie and daughter Lottie along to the second event after an enjoyable time out last year.

"The amazing food made us come back again tonight," she said.

"It's great weather, we're seeing all our friends and we don't have to cook or do the washing up."

Attendees were eager to support local businesses, with some stalls sold out before the evening came to a close.

Bright Chamber of Commerce president, Marcus Warner, said it was the perfect time of year to have a street festival.

"Tonight has been fantastic," he said.

"Our ambition was always to put on an event for the community and now is ideal because we're between the end of the busy snow season and before the hotter months arrive.

"It's great to get out and meet people; it's taken me an hour just to walk up the street.

"I think it's fantastic to see people from Porepunkah and Bright celebrating here this evening, after the recent ordeal.

"We extended an invitation to Victoria Police to attend and it was really nice to see them here, either on duty or as civilians."
